WISCONSIN JUNIOR RACE LEAGUE - WJR

WJR is a recreational club race program that includes 6 races at local hills. WJR is a volunteer organization made up of members from each race team. Parents will be required to participate, working one to two events during the season.
Athletes need to arrive at the Race venues between 8:00-8:30 a.m., meet their coaches - boots/skis on ready-to-go by 8:45 a.m.  Course inspection with the coaches begins at 9:00 a.m. and is open for 30 minutes.  Races usually start around 9:30am and finish near 2:00pm (see WJR race schedule). Racers must purchase a lift ticket at these events. S.W.AT., along with Alpine Valley will play host to one race this year. All racer families are expected to participate as needed on S.W.AT. Race Day.

CHILD/CLASS DESCRIPTIONS:
WJR Class 5-6: Ages 6 to 10 (as of 12/31/11)
•    Training at Alpine Valley Resort, East Troy, Wisconsin.
•    Must be able to SKI and SKI ALL RUNS AT ALPINE VALLEY RESORT COMFORTABLY.
•    Must be able to load, ride and exit all chairlifts AT ALPINE VALLEY RESORT AND OTHER RACE
     AREAS on their own.
•    Coaches in this age group are refining your children's current skiing skills & techniques.
•    Coaches address many of the basic fundamentals required to ski correctly.
•    Athletes will train in giant slalom and have an introduction to slalom gates.
•    Coaches provide a fun atmosphere as your children develop better skiing techniques, while participating in
     training drills.
•    WJR Saturday Races:  Class 5 & 6 race format will be 5 Giant Slalom courses & 1 Slalom course utilizing stubby gates.  Each athlete will take 2 runs per race, offering challenging, but safe competition.

WJR Class 1-4: Ages 11 to 18 (as of 12/31/11)
•    Training at Alpine Valley Resort, East Troy, Wisconsin.
•    Must be able to SKI ALL RUNS AT ALPINE VALLEY RESORT COMFORTABLY.
•    This age group, while still focusing on proper, fundamental skiing techniques, we begin to focus on racing techniques.
•    Training courses and coaching in Slalom [SL] and Giant Slalom [GS].
•    Progression is achieved through drills and running training courses.
•    WJR Saturday Races: Class 1-4 athletes race format for the season will be divided as follows:  3 Giant Slalom courses and 3 Slalom courses.  The competitions offer challenging, but safe competition.  At each race each competitor will take 2 runs per race. 
•    Sessions for goal setting, physical conditioning planning and season planning.
•    Access to all educational clinics hosted through out the year.
•    Video analysis of practices and races, when time permits.

WHAT the WJR RACE PROGRAM COVERS, all Classes:
•    Price includes the $35.00 racing fee to WJR.
•    Price includes DRY LAND training on Sundays, beginning in September at Mukwonago High School track from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The $50.00 cost payable at the first dry-land training and will be credited toward your membership fee.
•    Price includes on-snow pre-skiing training on:
•    Price includes coaching at WJR races along with:
•    Member receives a team sew-on patch for jacket, backpack or boot bags.
•    1: 1 0 ratio coaching at training sessions.

WHAT THE PRICE DOES NOT INCLUDE:
•    Season pass for Alpine Valley Resort (required). Obtain forms from the Alpine Valley web site and pay Alpine Valley.
•    Lift tickets at the other ski areas on Saturday race days.
•    Thanksgiving and/or Christmas camps when/if scheduled.
•    Coaching/training at the J3/4 Championship, additional fees will be charged if your child attends this event.
•    Coaching/training at a Junior Olympic event.
•    Coaching/training at a USSA event.
•    Coaching/training at any other race event (out of division races) your child enters or qualifies for.
